Job Description

Performs the functions of an educator, facilitator, change agent, leader, consultant and researcher in area of expertise. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of orientation programs. Develops and implements staff development and continuing education programs.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assess learner characteristics including learning styles and learning needs for program development; create an effective learning environment; demonstrate proficiency in use of technology; evaluate the outcomes of staff education.
  • Function as both teacher and facilitator; implement a variety of teaching strategies tailored to the learner's characteristics, learning needs, cultural perspectives and outcome objectives; plan nursing professional development programs that are culturally relevant and incorporate concepts of multicultural and multigenerational education; apply nursing and learning theoretical and conceptual foundations as a basis for developing nursing professional development programs.
  • Maintain visible clinical presence; adhere to regulatory body/agency standards; advocate for nursing professional development programs that support the needs of the learner and the organization; anticipate and forecast trends.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to ethical, cultural, and spiritual inclusion; engage in ethical decision‑making; effectively facilitate group processes; follow regulatory requirements for health reporting.
  • Function as a change agent and leader; implement motivational strategies at individual, group, program, or organizational levels; maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; use outcome measurements and outcome evaluation methods.
  • Promote problem solving; interpret and use research in practice; demonstrate knowledge of the research process; model the application of evidence‑based practice.
  • Use organizational strategic plan and goals to determine educational priorities; develop financial plan that allocates resources; plan and implement programs and projects using innovation and creativity; plan methodologies when implementing, facilitating and/or evaluating various programs and projects.
  • Design and implement evaluation plans for programs and projects; develop and implement a budget for programs and/or projects; accept personal responsibility for own professional development; promote participation in professional organizations for self and others.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication; use effective interpersonal skills; foster critical thinking; link nurses to professional development and other relevant resources.
  • Perform related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.
Job Qualification
  • Master’s degree in nursing required.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State and/or Connecticut required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 4–7 years of technical experience and 0–2 years of leadership/management experience.
Preferred
  • Peri‑op Experience.
