Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Advising and Student Success, this position works closely with students to develop individualized action plans, provide proactive academic advising, engage students in career exploration and education, and connect them with experiential learning and enrichment opportunities. The successful candidate will be highly adaptable, detail-oriented, and effective in working with a diverse range of students and campus partners, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Success in this role is measured by the advisor's ability to foster student engagement, persistence, and retention across their assigned caseload.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities Academic Advising & Student Success Coaching
  • Provide academic advising and success coaching to a designated caseload of undergraduate students at the University of Mount Saint Vincent.
  • Assist students with registration, major selection, course withdrawal, leaves of absence, withdrawal from the College, and graduate school exploration and selection.
  • Support onboarding and registration of incoming undergraduate students, including new first‑year and transfer populations.
  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and develop individualized academic plans to support retention and timely graduation.
  • Provide consistent, proactive outreach and ongoing monitoring of student progress toward persistence and degree completion.
  • Encourage persistence and completion by supporting Pell‑eligible students in overcoming both academic and “real‑life” barriers and identifying effective strategies for success.
Transfer & Specialized Advising
  • Advise new transfer students and evaluate academic transcripts for transfer credit applicability.
  • Support students during key transition points, including entry, major change, academic difficulty, and re‑enrollment.
Academic Intervention & Retention Support
  • Respond to Academic Alert forms submitted by faculty and staff through EAB Navigate.
  • Design and implement structured academic support for at‑risk students.
  • Meet more frequently with students placed on academic warning or academic probation to provide targeted interventions and progress monitoring.
  • Develop and facilitate academic programs and success plans for students experiencing academic difficulty.
Workshops, Programming & Student Engagement
  • Design and deliver student success workshops focused on wellness and executive functioning, including stress management, time management, study skills, and related topics.
  • Support institutional retention, registration, and student engagement initiatives.
Case Management, Data & Technology
  • Maintain an active caseload and document all student interactions in student success platforms.
  • Utilize systems such as Navigate, Slate, Degree Works, Banner, or similar technologies to track student engagement and outcomes.
  • Analyze student data to inform advising strategies, outreach efforts, and intervention planning.
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation and compliance with FERPA and institutional policies in all advising activities.
Collaboration & Campus Engagement
  • Collaborate with faculty, admissions, financial aid, residence life, and student support offices to provide coordinated, student‑centered care.
  • Make referrals to appropriate campus resources, including counseling, financial aid, career services, student life, and other support services.
