Academic Math Tutor (Middle School)

Responsibilities

Smart Start Education seeks a small group Math tutor to work with small groups of middle school students on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Each small group consists of 1‑4 students who have been identified as struggling with fundamental Math skills. Students are from 6th through 8th grade.

The tutor will work with each group several times throughout the week at a Bronx, NY middle school. Groups will take place within the classroom (push‑in services) or outside of the classroom (pull‑out services). The tutor must be flexible and comfortable with both settings, take daily attendance, and monitor student progress using a mobile phone.

  • Salary: $204.10 to $224.51 per day.
Qualifications
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in any field (anticipated graduation dates will not be considered).
  • Demonstrated experience of at least one year in teaching or tutoring, within a school or another educational setting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, including racial, socio‑economic, and cultural disparities.
  • Mastery of high school Science concepts and skills, substantiating proficiency in the subject.
  • Display of genuine passion and unwavering commitment toward fostering the success of students.
  • Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to schedules.
  • Proficiency in communication skills, enabling effective and articulate interaction with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to commute comfortably to the designated location.
