The Bureau of Tuberculosis Control is dedicated to preventing the spread and eliminating tuberculosis in New York City. The mission focuses on identifying individuals with TB and ensuring appropriate treatment, as well as identifying and treating high‑risk individuals to prevent progression from TB infection to disease.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Education and Training, the Training & Outreach Specialist will lead education and training initiatives for BTBC staff, partner with community organizations, care providers, and government agencies, and design and evaluate outreach and training programs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize and implement new training initiatives and evaluate existing professional development programs.
  • Conduct ad‑hoc analyses and research to support outreach and training planning.
  • Be available for outreach on weekends and evenings.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate community outreach efforts, including education, targeted materials distribution, and empowerment of partner organizations.
  • Assist in drafting and submitting grant applications for outreach and training initiatives.
  • Present abstracts and findings at national conferences.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including community‑based organizations.
  • Assist in needs assessments to inform TB training and outreach resources.
  • Coordinate research, implementation, and evaluation of public health detailing campaigns focused on best practices for TB care and treatment.
  • Mentor students, interns, and fellows within BTBC.
  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative evaluation of initiatives.
  • Contribute to design of evaluation studies and research on evidence‑based training & outreach, including surveys and questionnaires.
  • Track grantee deliverables, maintain records, and prepare reports.
  • Conduct and evaluate trainings for staff and external stakeholders, including training modules and curriculum.
  • Support efforts toward creating linkage to care initiatives.
  • Assist with drafting and submission of Continuing Medical Education (CME) documents for BTBC trainings and conferences.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
  • For Assignment Level II and above:
    • Doctorate degree and one year of full‑time supervisory, administrative or research experience, or
    • Master’s degree and three years of responsible full‑time research experience, or
    • Equivalent education and experience (see details).
  • All candidates must hold at least a master’s degree and have at least two years of qualifying experience. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I may be substituted for the required experience.
Additional Information

Probationary period of one year.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility may apply. Residency in New York City required within 90 days of appointment.
