Total Hours per week
: A maximum of 5 hours remote a week for mentoring & a maximum of 15 hours a week for on-site library work

Location

Remote (mentoring) and Manhattan campus library (library work)

Job Responsibilities:

Mentoring

  • Conduct outreach to students interested in receiving mentoring
  • Help students remotely with questions large and small such as balancing work/life responsibilities, working with Moodle, setting goals, tackling an assignment and utilizing support resources at MCNY
  • Attend at least two professional development discussions over the term
  • Attend occasional virtual team meetings over the term
  • Document all interactions with students
  • Promote the peer mentor program to students
  • Assist with peer mentor program outreach events
  • Perform other duties as determined by supervisors

Library Assistance

  • Work from the circulation desk as needed and assigned by supervisor and library staff
  • Learn how the library is organized, both on-site and virtually
  • On occasion, open or close the library as needed
  • Respond to questions from library users and direct them to library and LEC staff as needed
  • Track interactions with library users
  • Assist in a range of library projects including but not limited to weeding, stacks maintenance/shelf reading, creating book exhibits, collection management, blog maintenance, and special projects
  • Assist in outreach activities to students for library programming and services
  • Other support and clerical duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Currently in the second semester (or higher) of a degree program at Metropolitan College of New York
  • 3.0 GPA
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong Office 365 skills
  • Strong desire to help others and to work on facilitating learning and personal growth
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible regarding duties and assignments
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
