The dance instructor will teach group classes focused on Salsa in public schools located in the Lower East Side, Manhattan. The ideal candidate is a dedicated educator and musician with 2+ years of experience teaching students ages 8–11. Classes will take place on Tuesdays from 2:45–4:30 pm.

• Teach group classes in NYC public schools to ~20–25 students (45 minutes per session)
• Develop and deliver a 12‑week curriculum that builds students’ footwork, choreography, listening skills, rhythmic skills, and cultural/historical significance of dance through Salsa or other dance forms.
• Celebrate diverse cultures through music and/or dance.
• Collaborate on curriculum and scheduling with the assigned site contact and classroom teachers.
• Prepare students for informal or formal performances, as needed by the school.
• Support and encourage students to continue their dance education.
• Foster a love of dance.

• 2+ years of experience teaching in large group settings in public schools or community music schools.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with students and classroom teachers.
• Attention to punctuality, attendance records, and reporting.
• Record of ongoing professional development and activity in professional organizations.
• Ability to work effectively with a variety of colleagues, including Third Street faculty and staff.

Third Street Music School is a community music school that partners with 30+ public schools across NYC to provide music and dance instruction. The organization focuses on positive social and emotional outcomes through body awareness, communication, and community building.
