Manhattan Youth is looking for several part‑time After-school Teaching Assistant positions for the Middle School team for the 2025‑2026 school year. The role supports a wide variety of programs, including sports, recreation, competitive activities, STEM enrichment, arts, leadership, community service, and social justice.
As a Group Leader/Teaching Assistant, you will serve a critical role in delivering programs to children in our community. Working with Activity Specialists, you will gain hands‑on experience supporting students through various after‑school activities and fostering an environment that encourages creative thinking, communication, independence, confidence, self‑awareness, and problem‑solving.
These are part‑time, hourly positions available during the school year from September through June, following the NYC DOE schedule. Program hours are 2:00 – 6:00 pm Monday to Friday, with individual schedules varying by school. Compensation is $20 per hour.
Primary Responsibilities- Greet students, take attendance, and supervise during transition periods (arrival, snack time, activity transfers, dismissal).
- Assist students in recreational and sports activities.
- Prepare activities and materials for each day's schedule in collaboration with Activity Specialists.
- Maintain open communication with Site Director, Activity Specialists, and other staff.
- Ensure student safety during all activities and address emergencies as needed.
- Participate in professional development and work toward leading classes independently.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- 2+ years of after‑school, camp, or classroom experience, or currently pursuing a degree in education or a related field.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to express ideas clearly.
- Team player who takes initiative, proactively addresses challenges, and maintains a positive attitude.
- Willingness to learn, work hard, and take responsibility.
- Excellent references.
- Prior experience working with children in an after‑school program is preferred.
- Participation in theater groups, varsity sports, artistic activities, or significant volunteer experiences is a plus.
Hourly compensation: $20.00 per hour.
