We offer more than 180 integrated programs in Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services.

CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers and operates in neighborhoods with varying levels of need.

Youth Enrichment Services (YES): engages school‑aged youth 12–21 years old in programming and supportive services to promote positive youth development. YES is delivered in and around schools in areas with higher violence prevalence. YES staff recruit and engage youth who are vulnerable to system involvement or who have experienced violence.

Reports To: Assistant Program Director

What the Outreach Worker Does
  • Facilitate structured sessions during the school year, including workshops, group discussions, or mentorship activities on conflict resolution, violence prevention, and positive youth development
  • Work closely with safety staff to identify and engage at‑risk youth
  • Maintain a visible, approachable presence during school hours to build relationships with students
  • Detect, interrupt, and mediate conflicts involving students inside and outside the school
  • Respond to crisis situations promptly, deescalate conflicts, and provide mentorship to prevent violence
  • Collaborate with school personnel and local law enforcement to address incidents and identify recurring hot spots
  • Provide safe passage for students at least twice weekly (four times weekly for campus schools), ensuring visibility along routes to transportation and other high‑risk areas
  • Assist in identifying and addressing conflicts during dismissal or early after‑school hours
  • Actively recruit high‑risk youth into the program and provide ongoing support
  • Establish trustful relationships, offering guidance to help students navigate personal and academic challenges
  • Mentor participants on prosocial behaviors, life skills, and conflict resolution
  • Support marketing efforts by distributing program materials to the school and surrounding community
  • Document participant interactions and outreach activities with accurate, confidential records
  • Participate in regular team meetings and required training
  • Support program events and activities with on‑the‑ground assistance
  • Maintain open communication with the Lead Mediation Specialist and staff to ensure effective service delivery
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education/

    Experience:

    High School Diploma or High School Equivalency with two years of applicable experience
  • Experience in a mid‑sized organization preferred
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with participants
Other Requirements
  • Comfortable engaging with gang members, community activists, law enforcement, and public officials
  • Familiarity with Brownsville community challenges for teens and young adults is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of sensitivity and commitment to working with families affected by gun‑related trauma
  • Lived experience related to violence or justice system involvement
Compensation

$25.75 hourly

Status: Part‑time (35 hours biweekly)
