Sports Activity Specialist – Far Rockaway, NY

New York Edge is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Sports Specialist in Far Rockaway.

$20.00/hr - $25.00/hr

New York Edge is the largest provider of after school and community school programs in all five boroughs of New York City and Wyandanch, Long Island. With more than 25,000 students in grades K‑12, New York Edge bridges the opportunity gap faced by students in under-invested communities by strengthening academic performance, health and wellness, self‑confidence, and leadership skills for success in life.

The Sports Specialist for the after‑school program will design and lead engaging physical activities that promote teamwork, fitness, and skill development. They will create a fun and inclusive environment where students of all abilities can participate and build confidence through sports. Additionally, they will ensure safety, provide coaching, and foster a positive learning experience for all participants.

• Build strong relationships with and among students
• Teach or co‑lead daily activities
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students
• Participate in ongoing professional development activities
• Prepare materials for daily activities
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
• Support the coordination of program events
• Input data and prepare reports
• Administer pre and post‑assessments and evaluations for student activities
• Other duties may be assigned

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred
• Experience working with children strongly preferred

Part‑time:
Monday‑Friday (2:30 pm‑5:30 pm)

$20‑25/hour (based on experience and credentials). Specialists will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration.

At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and the Department of Health.
