POSITION DETAILSCity University of New York seeks a highly qualified candidate for the role of Student Career Program Manager (Assoc. Director of Employer Relations). CUNY School of Law is a national leader in progressive legal education with the mission of training a diverse student body to become excellent public interest attorneys. The Associate Director for Employer Relations provides individual career advising to students and alumni, co-designs career readiness programming, and leads employer engagement strategies. Reports to the Director of Career Planning. This role focuses on cultivating and maintaining relationships with legal employers and intermediaries to expand opportunities for students and graduates.
Other key duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide one-on-one and small group career advising to students and alumni, including reviewing application materials, preparing for interviews, and developing job search strategies.
- Work with the Associate Director of Student Engagement & Programming to design and facilitate employer informational sessions, workshops and programming on career development, job search skills, and professional identity formation.
- Build and maintain relationships with law firms, public interest organizations, government agencies and officials, the judiciary, law firms, and bar associations.
- Lead employer outreach efforts, including site visits, communications, and events to promote CUNY Law students and alumni.
- Manage recruitment programs such as on-campus interviews, job fairs, and employer information sessions.
- Monitor market trends in legal hiring and provide insight to inform office strategy and student advising.
- Outreach faculty, student organizations, and law school departments to integrate career development into the academic and co-curricular experience.
- Contribute to employment collection and reporting of the employment status of the most recent graduated class, as mandated by the ABA and NALP.

Occasional evening and weekend hours required to support programs and events.
This position is subject to the same in-person requirements as other staff in the Law School. This entails a minimum of 80% in-person presence on campus and may be higher than 80% based on departmental and divisional needs.
QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.
PREFERRED:- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school, with at least 3 years of legal practice experience, preferably in public interest or public service sectors (government, nonprofit, judicial) or with demonstrated employer-side recruiting experience.
- Knowledge of the legal employment market, including current hiring trends, recruitment practices, and pathways across public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively engage legal employers, alumni, and external partners.
- Demonstrated experience counseling and advising students or alumni in a graduate or professional school setting.
- Experience with data collection, market analysis, and employment outcomes reporting to inform employer outreach strategy.
- Proficiency in career services platforms, Microsoft 365, and virtual collaboration tools.
- Commitment to the mission and values of CUNY School of Law, with a passion for advancing access to legal education and promoting social justice.
Develops and manages career development programs and services in a College of Unit and assumes a leadership role in the design and delivery of creative approaches to career education and planning.
