The Katz School of Science and Health seeks a Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor for our Occupational Therapy Program. The faculty member will report directly to the Occupational Therapy Program Director and will provide program‑specific expertise, actively engage in department initiatives, and support university, campus, and departmental goals. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with accreditation and licensure standards, fostering an innovative educational environment, and participating in continuous assessment to maximize student learning outcomes.
The role upholds a culture of academic integrity and serves as an educator, role model, mentor, and facilitator.
- Fulfills an assigned teaching load of 18 credits per year.
- Participates in and contributes to assessment activities of courses, curriculum, and program via a continuous improvement plan set forth by the University.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the learning process, and for individual students.
- Facilitates student learning in accordance with prescribed course and program learning outcomes.
- Regularly contributes to the improvement or upgrading of class materials and syllabi.
- Follows established protocols for providing timely feedback, academic advising, and assessment of student learning.
- Keeps approved office hours (for full‑time faculty).
- Mentors students and faculty as assigned by the department/program dean or director.
- Supervises students completing capstone research projects.
- Explores scholarly research to improve teaching and instruction.
- Works toward cross‑disciplinary approaches to instruction.
- Attends professional development activities each year as agreed upon with the supervisor in an associate development plan.
- Chooses at least one of the following activity areas: publishing & writing, contributing to textbooks, presenting at conferences or educational trainings, attending test‑writing or accreditation activities, serving on thesis/dissertation committees, or other agreed professional activity.
- Identifies and applies specialized research or activities related to teaching and assigned subject areas, or contributes to the scholarly community and knowledge of the discipline.
- Attends department, college, and university meetings/councils as arranged/approved by the program director.
- Develops connections within the professional community, both inside and outside the University/Occupational Therapy program.
- Contributes service in at least one of the following areas:
- Community or public service.
- Professional organization membership.
- University/Occupational Therapy program service.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Earned a terminal doctorate (OTD, PhD, EdD, ScD, or equivalent). EdG is acceptable if it is a terminal degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Background in educational methodology consistent with teaching assignments, including education theory, practice, current concepts in subjects taught, clinical practice experience, or distance education techniques and delivery.
- Two or more years of teaching experience (adjunct, full, or part‑time) in an ACOTE–accredited Occupational Therapy program. Instructional experience must be at institutions that are Title IV funding eligible.
- Minimum of four years of clinical practice, with at least two years supervising internship students.
- Expertise in adult, older adult, mental health, health, and wellness areas, with documented experience or certification(s) in specializations.
- Certified by NBCOT as an OTR (Registered Occupational Therapist).
- Licensed, or able to obtain licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the State of New York.
- Membership with the American Occupational Therapy Association.
- Meets and maintains qualifications and standards set by accreditation bodies applicable to the faculty member’s expertise.
