Job Title: Teacher Aide
Department: HGLCS

Position Summary

The Teacher Aide supports students throughout the school day by assisting with classwork, keeping them on task, and offering guidance during times of frustration. Working as part of the classroom team, the Teacher Aide helps ensure students progress toward the goals and objectives outlined in their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Service Plan.

Compensation

$16.28 – $17.50 per hour in the first year, with guaranteed raises.

Hours/Schedule

Full‑Time, Monday – Friday, 7:45 AM – 2:45 PM.

Professional Development Opportunities

Teacher Aides receive ongoing professional development through in‑service trainings, supervision, and opportunities to strengthen expertise in the field. Staff maintain certifications including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and First Aid/CPR, provided by the agency.

Position

Specific Duties /Responsibilities
  • Support the classroom Teacher in directing student behavior and activities to accomplish goals
  • Create a learning climate that fosters intellectual, social, and emotional development
  • Assist students with classwork and special instructional projects
  • Provide information that supports the development of appropriate learning experiences
  • Assist in developing classroom materials and resources
  • Supervise students during transitions, in hallways, and in lunchrooms as needed
  • Operate classroom support equipment (reproduction and clerical devices)
  • Maintain records of student progress as directed
  • Attend Service Plan Reviews when requested by the Teacher
  • Support the campus‑wide PBIS program
  • Attend team meetings, mandatory in‑service trainings, and supervision sessions
  • Maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and First Aid/CPR certification provided by the agency
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Teacher or Principal
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively with youth, families, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to adapt to change, remain flexible, and respond effectively to student needs
  • Ability to manage challenging student behaviors, including working with emotionally disturbed or learning‑disabled students
  • Proficient in communication across multiple mediums (logbooks, email, telephone)
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow instructions from supervisory staff
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Teacher Assistant Certification (preferred)
  • Experience working with emotionally disturbed and/or learning‑disabled students (preferred, but not required)
  • Valid driver’s license, adequate auto insurance, and compliance with agency driving policy
  • Ability to pass an annual physical per agency health policy (Category 3 classification)
  • Compliance with agency safety standards and healthy work environment practices
