The Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology and the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG) at Cornell University invite applications for a tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the College of Arts and Sciences. A Ph.D. is required. We welcome candidates whose expertise centers on investigating cell and molecular biology from an evolutionary perspective. Successful candidates are expected to synergize with and/or introduce new evolutionary‑centric approaches that complement the wide range of biological research areas in the institute and department, and promote interdisciplinary collaborations.
Areas of interest include all aspects of evolutionary cell and molecular biology, such as (but not limited to) cellular mechanisms, molecular evolution, cell‑type and organelle development, genomics, cell‑cell interactions in organisms and ecosystems, evolution of resistance mechanisms, speciation, origin of life research, and synthetic biology. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vibrant externally‑funded research program, to contribute to teaching and mentoring, and to promote an inclusive climate for research.
The Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology, an endowed institute within Cornell University located in Ithaca, NY, has a broad focus on cell and molecular biology and serves as a hub for molecular life sciences across the university. The Institute’s culture is highly collaborative and current research areas include cell signaling, cell morphogenesis and patterning, mechanobiology, neurobiology, membrane trafficking, lipid metabolism, protein networks, cell cycle and DNA damage in diverse biological systems spanning microbes to humans.
MBG department faculty engage in cutting‑edge research, training, and teaching, that address fundamental questions in the life sciences. Life sciences research at Cornell is supported by state‑of‑the‑art facilities, robust graduate programs, and a highly interactive and collaborative research culture.
[Pay Range: $83,200 – $125,000]
Actual salary offers in the College of Arts and Sciences will be based on education, experience, discipline, and relevant skills.
