Summary

The Teacher Preparation Instructional Team at Relay is dedicated to fostering pedagogical excellence and providing comprehensive student support for both pre-service and in-service teachers. The team oversees academic programs, faculty, and student support across all licensure- and degree-granting components. As part of the Teacher Preparation Team, the Clinical Practice division leads Relay students to connect theory to the classroom context and focuses on developing culturally responsive and inclusive educators through practice, feedback, and reflection cycles.

Reporting to the Director, New York Clinical Practice, the Professor, New York Clinical Practice, holds critical responsibilities in shaping the future of teacher preparation. The Professor, Clinical Experience, will teach foundations and clinical practice courses, conduct observation-feedback cycles, and foster collaborative cohorts of continuously improving educators. In addition, this professor will collaborate with the New York Clinical Practice Director to lead the vision for the positive experience and success of teacher preparation students and instructional partnerships across New York.

Duties

and Responsibilities

The essential responsibilities of this position, while not limited to the following, will include:

Teaching Responsibilities (40%)

  • Teach engaging and effective graduate-level courses (~6–12 credits/term) to cohorts of ~50 students.
  • Conduct ~4-5 observations for approximately 75 students as part of clinical practice courses in the fall and spring terms.
  • Engage in peer observation and provide and implement constructive feedback for continuous instructional improvement.
  • Provide guidance, resources, and feedback to support students in meeting course learning goals.

Student Experience (30%)

  • Model and advance the knowledge, skills, and mindsets of a culturally responsive educator in teaching, coaching, and supporting students.
  • Provide feedback to students on observations, reflection journals, and other teaching artifacts within one to two weeks to foster their continuous reflection and improvement.
  • Hold regular office hours to provide individualized support for students as needed.
  • Collaborate with the New York Clinical Practice Director, managers of student success, and licensure exam preparation faculty to support student success in clinical practice and foundations coursework and state licensure progress across New York.
  • Collaborate with school-based mentor teachers to ensure meaningful and aligned clinical experiences.

Programmatic & Design Responsibilities (15%)

  • Complete required documentation for students’ licensure as applicable, including feedback on state-required rubrics and completing licensure recommendation forms.
  • Maintain consistent communication with instructional partners, the Partnerships Manager, and the New York Clinical Practice Director to support student success and EPP completion.
  • Participate in state-level team meetings and engage with student support services to increase student success.
  • Lead strategic projects defined by the Clinical Practice Director, ensuring alignment with team initiatives and Relay’s institutional goals to advance program quality and impact.
  • Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of programs and courses by providing feedback on curriculum and national strategy to meet the needs of New York students.

Faculty Management (10%)

  • Supervise, observe, and coach part-time faculty (including Assistant Professors, Field Supervisors and/or Adjunct Faculty), using the program’s instructional rubrics to drive continuous improvement through targeted feedback.
