Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist - Enhanced Family Foster Care

Classification: Contractor (flexible hours, remote or hybrid with an office in the 630 Flushing Avenue Brooklyn location or option to use private office)

Compensation

Base pay: $100–$100 per hour. Individual assignments: $100 for a 45‑minute medical review including indirect time; $120 if an AIMS is administered; $275–$300 for a psychiatric evaluation. Additional time is prorated.

Job Description

The contracted child and adolescent psychiatrist will collaborate with the team to provide high‑quality clinical services, including up to 15 hours per week of trauma‑informed, child‑centered psychiatric evaluations and medication management for children placed in foster care. Responsibilities also include timely documentation, participation in multidisciplinary team meetings to recommend behavioral supports (care management, crisis intervention, individual and group psychotherapy), case reviews, training, and consultation with other team members.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for children and youth placed in foster care; optionally provide evaluation and medication management for youth up to one‑year post‑discharge.
  • Analyze psychosocial information shared by the team, past psychiatric/psychological evaluations, medical histories and physical examinations, mental health screenings, direct observation, and interviews; produce a written report including diagnosis in the electronic health record.
  • Recommend appropriate treatments and supports (psychotherapy, care management, home and community‑based services, special rate, higher level of care, supportive housing).
  • Conduct psychiatric consultation and assessment on an emergency basis to prevent hospitalization and facilitate post‑discharge planning.
  • Provide timely paperwork in compliance with ACS, DOH, OCFS and COA requirements.
  • Assess medication necessity, provide medication management, and continuously evaluate and adjust medications.
  • For psychiatrically hospitalized youth, communicate with the treatment team to consult on planning and post‑discharge plans.
  • Meet (optionally virtually) with parents to obtain informed consent, as needed.
  • Support Sanctuary Model commitments and tools: safety plans, community meetings, psycho‑educational groups, team meetings, red flag reviews, treatment planning conferences, and self‑care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • MD or DO license, NY State Board Certification or Board Eligible in Psychiatry – Child/Adolescent Psychiatry preferred.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents and families.
  • Commitment to a strength‑based, youth development and trauma‑informed perspective.
  • Willingness to learn the ACS consent policy for the use of psychiatric medications for children and youth in placement and LFCS models of practice, including youth and family development.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal, written, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a fast‑paced milieu setting.
