Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Assistant-Interventional Cardiology (Cardiac Cath Lab). The Physician Assistant will provide care to patients in the Department and in the subspecialties as needed. The Physician Assistant will follow established standards, procedures, and practices, and give specific patient care directions to nursing and other staff.

Responsibilities
  • Practices within the scope of delineated privileges.
  • Provide direct care to individuals and families consistent with the philosophy of Lutheran Medical Center and the departmental/institutional goals, including safety, well-being of patients and visitors, and maintenance of patient rights and confidentiality.
  • Provide diagnostic and assessment services to patients in the Department of Surgery utilizing a problem-solving approach: obtain a detailed history and perform physical examinations; consider age, growth, and developmental stage when assessing, treating, and caring for patients; write appropriate orders after consulting with a physician; implement a therapeutic regime or protocol; monitor the patient s response; notify the attending physician of changes;

    consult specialists for complex cases.
  • Documentation of all patient encounters including assessment and progress notes, treatment rendered, patient teaching, follow-up, and referrals.
  • Maintain required unit records, reports, and statistics necessary for administrative purposes and reimbursement, including discharge summaries.
  • Evaluation and management of critical care patients.
  • Perform emergency life-saving procedures in the absence of a physician.
  • Participate in rounds with the attending staff and house staff on assigned patients.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and families in the physical and emotional transitions of admissions, care, and discharge.
  • Provide preventive health services including counseling and teaching in health maintenance and problem-related areas.
  • Participate in activities relating to Quality Improvement and committees as appropriate.
  • Attend all scheduled departmental meetings/conferences.
  • Be on call during non-working hours to assist attendings in urgent or emergent situations/procedures.
  • Direct, instruct, and evaluate activities of P.A. and medical students as appropriate.
  • Participate in activities fostering professional growth and maintenance of certification.
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a Bachelor s or master s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Currently Licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of New York. ACLS through the American Heart Association. At least 1 year of relevant experience required.

Required Licenses: Physician Assistant Lic-NYS, National Certification as Physician Assistant, Basic Life Support Certification

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) through the American Heart Association or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics may be required based on your selected privileges. 1 year of applicable job experience preferred.
