Location: New York
The FHC laborist will provide comprehensive (routine and emergency) obstetrics and gynecological care to an ethnically and socially diverse patient population in accordance with the values, beliefs and policies of Family Health Centers and NYU Langone Health. This is an inpatient position at NYU Langone-Brooklyn, located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, NY. The Hospital serves a diverse patient population, caring for both low and high-risk pregnancies, delivering 4000 deliveries annually.
FHC has about deliveries a year.
- Provide comprehensive inpatient coverage for patients requiring obstetric admission.
- Admit and manage patients in labor, overseeing routine and complex deliveries, including operative vaginal and cesarean deliveries.
- Evaluate patients presenting in triage as needed and facilitate their admission or discharge as clinically indicated.
- Manage postpartum patients, addressing complications of pregnancy and delivery, routine postpartum care, and ensuring timely postpartum discharge before 11 am.
- Perform neonatal circumcisions.
- Provide emergency room care for patients experiencing early pregnancy complications.
- Supervise and deliver care for high‑risk patients (32 wk and over) with 24‑hour consultation support from Maternal Fetal Medicine faculty.
- Collaborate with General Ob/Gyn physicians for primary management of laboring patients, unless otherwise arranged with Maternal Fetal Medicine.
- Maintain the highest standards of evidence‑based obstetric care.
- Attend to departmental and unit quality and safety goals, including achieving low primary cesarean delivery rates, low episiotomy rates, and prompt recognition and escalation of clinical safety concerns.
- Adhere to policies and procedures to enhance operational workflows for patient care.
- Facilitate a High Reliability Organization (HRO) by exhibiting professionalism for patients, colleagues, and staff.
- Provide patient care and services in Emergency Room and Operating Room of NYU Langone-Brooklyn.
- Maintain accurate, timely and complete documentation of all clinical services rendered in our EMR system and other appropriate areas.
- Participate in committees and meetings related to departmental growth, resident and medical student education, quality initiatives, as requested.
- Participate on a rotating basis in the 24‑hour on‑call, phone coverage arrangement, which includes answering patients’ telephone calls within 30 minutes and entering all required documentation of the call in the patient’s medical record.
- An on‑call shift is defined as a 24‑hour period in the hospital.
- Expectations include three (3) shifts every two (2) weeks or six (6) shifts every four (4) weeks. At a minimum, it should be 78 shifts annually.
- Graduated from US accredited OBGYN residency training program
- NYS medical license
- Board eligible or board certified OBGYN
- 3+ years experience working as a L&D laborist/hospitalist
