Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval and award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications Basic Requirements
  • United States Citizenship:
    Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current – full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State – Territory – or Commonwealth of the United States – or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency training:
    Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Preferred Experience:

    Women’s Health – Family Medicine.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical Requirements:

    Moderate lifting (15‑44 lbs.), Light carrying (under 15 lbs.), Straight pulling (up to 2 hours), Pushing (up to 2 hours), Reaching above shoulder, Use of fingers, Both hands required, Walking (up to 3 hours), Standing (up to 3 hours), Kneeling (up to 1.5 hours), Repeated bending (up to 2 hours), Near vision correctable at 13" to 16", Far vision correctable one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, Hearing (aid permitted), Clear speech.

Duties
  • The Physician will be part of a multidisciplinary team to provide primary care and gender‑specific care of female veterans of all ages at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center and associated CBOCs.
  • The team includes pharmacy, gynecology, social work, mental health, and nutrition.
  • Provide preventive health care, primary care evaluation and management of chronic and acute medical conditions.
  • Provide gender‑specific care, including gynecological care, birth‑control counseling and management, preconception care, breast and cervical cancer screenings, HPV vaccinations, pelvic exams, STI treatment, pelvic/abdominal pain, menstrual concerns, vaginal symptoms (dryness/infections), urinary incontinence, initial infertility evaluation, menopause evaluation and treatment (hormone replacement).
  • Collaborate with two gynecologists on site – a women's veterans practice manager, a maternity coordinator, breast care/mammographer coordinator and breast surgeon.
