Overview

OXMAN is a nature-based research and design company based in Manhattan. We incubate nature-centric ventures that address critical challenges at the intersection of Nature and Humanity. Working across sectors, OXMAN fosters innovation that reimagines the relationship between the built environment and the natural world.

EDEN is OXMAN’s applied ecological systems initiative operating at architectural, urban, and landscape scales. We are pioneering a digital design environment for engineering biodiverse, resilient ecosystems by developing software that enables designers and engineers to integrate ecosystem services—including carbon sequestration, thermal buffering, and biodiversity—into master planning and design. Our tools aim to transform ecosystem services from undervalued byproducts into essential infrastructure.

While we test and refine the platform through client projects in master planning, architecture, and landscape architecture, our core mission is to build a powerful, adaptable system for designing productive, regenerative environments. We are looking for talented individuals to join us in shaping the future of nature-centric design.

EDEN is seeking a Landscape Designer to join our interdisciplinary design team in New York City to support our mission of delivering stellar, data-driven design proposals that leverage EDEN’s unique suite of ecosystem engineering tools.

The senior landscape designer will work closely with EDEN’s design leadership team on the analysis, master planning, and concept design of large-scale sites to maximize the potential for natural systems to operate as essential infrastructure for the mutual benefit of the environment and our clients. Exceptional documentation, visualization, and communication skills are essential, as are the abilities to think systematically, problem solve proactively, and integrate with new tools and workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Design + Modeling

  • Contribute to research, analysis, and all aspects of site design

  • Build and maintain high-quality digital and physical 3D models to support design development, simulation, visualization, and presentation.

  • Use Rhino + Grasshopper to manage project-based files, produce design iterations, parametric studies, and performance-based simulations.

  • Source, process, and translate relevant geospatial data into maps, design proposals or data usable by downstream tools

Visualization + Documentation

  • Create compelling graphic plans, diagrams, renderings, and presentation materials

  • Produce clear, detailed design documentation for internal use and client deliverables.

  • Contribute to project reports, proposals, and other written communications.

Collaboration & Integration

  • Facilitate collaboration between design, engineering, and computational teams to ensure seamless integration of data, base files, and geospatial data within broader system designs.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews and provide feedback on ecological and spatial strategies.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in landscape architecture or related design discipline.

  • 2-5 years of professional experience producing compelling designs from concept through schematic phases

  • Stellar portfolio of work that demonstrates conceptual and technical rigor as well as a sophisticated graphic sensibility.

  • Advanced proficiency in Rhino and Grasshopper, including parametric modeling workflows.

  • Proficiency in Arc Map/ArcGIS Pro

Preferred

  • Proficiency in programming is a plus (Python and/or C++), Google Earth Engine, Enscape, and/or Houdini

  • Design research experience, especially pertaining to ecology, sustainability, resilience, remote sensing, and environmental simulation

  • Hand sketching and rendering skills
