Summary of Responsibilities:Working in collaboration with the Development and Construction departments, the Vice President, Design manages the design process for active development projects and coordinates the activities of the department as it relates to design execution. The Vice President, Design interacts with various design consultants, and third-party vendors in the day-to-day implementation of the design process. With an emphasis on interior design scope, this individual works directly with and manages the expectations of the Founder and Chairman as it relates to projects design intent implementation, and Design Department processes.
The role oversees and provides guidance to in-house Design Associates and Junior Designers in the execution of their work.
- Make recommendations on the selection of interior designers and other related design consultants, as applicable.
- Review design scope of work as needed during consultant’s contract negotiation phase
- Works closely and collaboratively with other departments to help manage and facilitate the design process through all stages of design.
- Work with the Development and Marketing teams to establish conceptual design direction and project design protocols.
- Work with the Construction team to oversee the consultant’s construction administration phase by conducting field visits, review coordination efforts, and ensure implementation of approved design intents.
- Work with the Sales, Marketing and Development team to develop sales center layout plans, model units, or hotel mock-up rooms (as applicable), including FFE and accessary package design direction on behalf of ownership.
- Help manage design consultants and review their deliverables at each phase of the design process, including but not limited to review of design packages, floor plans kitchen designs, bathroom designs, public spaces and amenities design, for residential and/or hospitality projects, as applicable.
- Oversee submittal and punch list review process to ensure implementation of approved design intent.
- Oversee selection of art and FFE as it relates to the project.
- Oversee design compliance and integrity of projects as related to trade coordination, construction administration, and drawing/specifications.
- Assessment and procurement of natural materials.
- Quality control vetting and selection of source facilities and suppliers.
- Consult for bidder de-scope for applicable trades.
- Consult and review design aspects of marketing materials.
- Oversee FF&E design, pricing, and procurement processes.
- Perform any additional duties assigned.
- Ability to multi-task, work successfully with deadlines, effectively manage time, workload and expectations
- Ability to work independently and within a team to build relationships and interact effectively to complete tasks in an entrepreneurial environment
- Strong attention to detail, work ethic and administrative skills
- Exhibit sound business judgement
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to present recommendations and interact with the senior management and investment partners
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture or interior design, required, master’s degree in architecture or interior design preferred
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in architecture, interior design or in real estate development with background in these disciplines, other related activities in the real estate industry
- Knowledge of general workflow and processes for construction and design
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and Autodesk AutoCAD
- Office environment with the usual office equipment and minimal noise level
- Construction sites with usual equipment and noise
