Senior Architect – NYC Department of Social Services
Apply now for the Senior Architect role with the Department of Social Services. Applicants must be permanent in the Architect Civil Service title or in a comparable title eligible for a 6.1.9 title change.
The Department of Social Services (DSS) comprises the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA focuses on poverty income, while DHS addresses homelessness.
General Support Services (GSS) provides facilities planning, design and construction, renovation, and more. GSS supports HRA emergency preparedness.
Responsibilities- Perform all architectural work associated with the preparation, review, and management of the agency’s construction program.
- Develop project scope and preliminary cost estimates.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Review construction/consultant contracts for scope compliance and architectural plans prepared by consultants and/or in-house staff.
- Coordinate with consultants and/or in-house staff and manage projects from conception to completion.
- Prepare sketches and layouts, conduct research on utilization of improved building materials, systems, and evaluate suitability for HRA capital programs.
- Participate in substantial completion inspections and prepare detailed punch lists of items to be corrected by contractors.
- Sign and seal architectural and other official documents; interpret the Building Code and Zoning Resolution for non‑technical staff.
- File projects at the Department of Buildings (DOB), Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), City Planning Commission (CPC), and New York City Fire Department (FDNY) to meet commissioners’ initiatives and goals.
- Valid New York State Registration as an Architect, maintained throughout employment.
- At least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or project leader on a complex project requiring specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
- Same requirement for Assignment Levels II and III.
- Highly skilled in AutoCAD and proficient in Revit drafting.
- Knowledge of construction documents, as-built drawings, and schedules.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, One Note).
- Proficiency in Revu Bluebeam.
