AboutThe Role
As Principal Product Designer, you will shape the look, feel and usability of all Berry Street surfaces—from the mobile app to the telehealth experience. You’ll set the bar for design excellence, ensuring every interaction reflects empathy, trust and clarity. This hands‑on leadership role balances high‑level vision with rolling up your sleeves to design alongside a lean team.
Key Responsibilities- Own design across all surfaces: define and uphold a cohesive design system and user experience across mobile, web and telehealth.
- Lead the design team: mentor and inspire a small team of product designers, fostering a culture of craft, collaboration and continuous learning.
- Elevate the user experience: partner with product, engineering and clinical teams to translate complex healthcare workflows into simple, intuitive interfaces that build trust with patients and providers.
- Drive the design process: set standards for research, prototyping, visual design and usability testing to ensure product decisions are grounded in both creativity and evidence.
- Be hands‑on: contribute directly to product design where needed, especially in early iterations or high‑stakes features.
- Champion design at the company level: advocate for design thinking in strategy discussions and ensure the user voice is central to decision‑making.
- Leverage AI in the design process: incorporate AI tools into prototyping, iteration and research workflows to accelerate creativity and learning.
- 8+ years of professional design experience.
- Portfolio that demonstrates exceptional design sense across mobile and web products, ideally including consumer‑facing experiences.
- Familiarity with AI‑assisted design and prototyping tools and enthusiasm for exploring how they can elevate speed, craft and innovation.
- Experience leading design in a startup or high‑growth environment, balancing speed with thoughtful craft.
- Comfortable working cross‑functionally with product managers, engineers and clinicians to tackle ambiguous problems.
- Hands‑on leadership mindset—setting vision while diving into details when needed.
