About the Position
Full‑time position for a psychologist within the Consultation‑Liaison Psychiatry division, primarily focused on renal transplantation. The clinician will work alongside transplant nephrologists, nurse practitioners and social workers in a liaison role. Most work will be in the outpatient clinic, with some inpatient consultation.
The role is part of the clinical, research and educational mission of transplant psychiatry through the CL Psychiatry Division ulty will attend case conferences, peer supervision and Grand Rounds at CUIMC, and will have professional development funds for licensure renewals, training, conference attendance, professional organization membership and the opportunity to supervise/provide didactics to trainees.
Responsibilities- Provide assessments of adult candidates for renal transplant.
- Provide follow‑up during the evaluation phase and post‑renal transplant, functioning as a bridge to chronic mental health care. A stepped‑care approach will be applied in collaboration with social workers, nurse practitioners and transplant psychiatrists.
- Serve as a dedicated liaison to the renal team and attend selection committee and quality improvement meetings to provide insight and recommendations.
- Evaluate a select group of kidney donor candidates for surgery.
- Cross‑cover inpatient evaluations for the three psychiatrists dedicated to heart, liver and lung transplant groups.
Applicants should have experience conducting diagnostic interviews and administering and reviewing scales. Knowledge of cognitive behavioral and motivational interviewing techniques is required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well across disciplines and function effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team are essential.
Preferred Qualifications- Interest in the psychological care of patients with medical illness.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team setting.
- Interest in academic as well as clinical psychiatry.
- Interest in research and quality improvement.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psychology.
- New York State license required.
- Potential requirement for New Jersey license.
- For psychologists at Instructor level: graduation from an APA‑accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology and completion of an APA‑accredited pre‑doctoral internship program.
