Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registered Radiologic Assistant (NYS Specialist Assistant License Required).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols; use evidence-based literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes within the designated service.
  • Obtain and evaluate vital signs; perform limited physical examinations; record and present data to the Supervisor or Attending Physician with clarity.
  • Obtain informed consent; verify patient preparation and assess risk factors; collaborate with radiologist as needed.
  • Review patient medical records to verify exam appropriateness; interview patient to update medical history; explain procedures, risks, benefits, and alternatives.
  • Document adverse occurrences and follow up after adverse reactions or extravasations; notify the radiologist as required.
  • Remain aware of backup procedures during emergencies; report adverse reactions to the Attending Radiologist and referring physician.
  • Recognize and initiate treatment for anaphylaxis; recognize signs of IV contrast reactions and respond to contrast-related events up to cardiovascular collapse.
  • Maintain BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications; monitor patients under the care of the Supervising Physician during radiologic exams.
  • Perform follow-up patient evaluations and communicate findings to the radiologist; document procedures and any protocol deviations; participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Assist with data collection for clinical trials or research; coordinate with nursing and other disciplines in study development and implementation.
  • Communicate radiologist's report to referring physicians in accordance with guidelines; provide post-care instructions as prescribed.
  • Review imaging studies (diagnostic, US, CT, MR); communicate initial observations to the radiologist as appropriate.
  • Operate fixed/mobile fluoroscopic units; document fluoroscopy time; evaluate image quality and request additional images as needed.
  • Perform procedures including contrast administration and image-guided injections (e.g., joint injections, arthrography); perform catheter placements and select biopsies under supervision.
  • Administer contrast agents and radiopharmaceuticals as prescribed; monitor patients for side effects or complications of medications; ensure proper documentation in the medical record.
  • Explain effects and potential side effects of medications; verify tests and medications according to supervising physician criteria.
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth through continuing education and maintain CME requirements, board certification, license, and registration.
  • Monitor cost-effectiveness of the position and participate in clinical research or trials as applicable.
  • Collaborate with teams to support clinical studies and research protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree required. Graduate of an ARRT-approved Registered Radiologic Assistant Program; current New York State license as a Specialist Assistant in Radiology (RRA). BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications required.
