BIRTHDAY CALLER OVERVIEW

Health Advocates members include many individuals who live alone and do not have family nearby. A volunteer is responsible for sending birthday cards to these individuals. This is greatly appreciated and we would like to compliment this outreach effort with a birthday call. The birthday call will provide a warm and friendly touchpoint and signal our concern about the call recipient.

The call will give our organization a chance to check in with each of our participants, find out how they are doing and connect them with outside resources if needed. Volunteer callers will place these calls.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Call a list of 10+ Health Advocates participants per month to wish them a Happy Birthday.
  • Attempt to call each individual on their actual birthday, or two days before or after.
  • Use the script that will be provided as a basis for the call.
  • Place calls when you are in a cheery mood so that you can share your good cheer with those with whom you are speaking.
  • Use your own cell phone or volunteer using a phone at Health Advocates’ Office at 420 Lexington Ave.
  • Refer individuals who ask questions that you cannot address to , ext. 206 so that a staff member can provide helpful information. You may take a message and send it toinfo , as well.
  • Update contact information for each call recipient, if applicable.
  • Update the Coordinator at least monthly on call status and feedback from recipients. Also share updated contact or any other information.
  • Alert staff to any issues that arise during your calls.
Requirements
  • Comfortable speaking with new people on the phone.
  • Ability to maintain boundaries (training to be provided).
