Roc Nation is looking for an Editorial Director with a command of the cultural and media landscape – a leader who’s eager to build from the ground up, setting the overall vision, tone, and storytelling across both written and multimedia content. This person will be responsible for shaping and executing editorial strategies, ensuring all content and marketing initiatives are consistent with brand objectives and goals.
Must be comfortable in an entrepreneurial, high volume environment.
This role will report to the Head of Creative, working closely with the creative team to develop and produce dynamic editorial and digital content for a brand. They should come armed with a rolodex of collaborators, ideas, and insights, while simultaneously sourcing unique collaboration and coverage opportunities.
Responsibilities Editorial Leadership- Develop and implement a cohesive editorial strategy that aligns the brand’s mission and goals
- Leverage a network of journalistic creators to build a robust caché of external contributors
- Create and maintain an editorial calendar with actionable strategy points for the confirmed content slates.
- Maintain editorial standards for accuracy, tone, diversity, and ethical integrity
- Write and create editorial content as needed for the brand
- Guide story development from pitch to publication, ensuring creativity and relevance at all levels
- Represent the publication in partnerships, events, and collaborations
- Lead and collaborate with Art Director, design team, and creative strategists
- Lead and mentor a small team of editors, writers, and multimedia producers
- Create functional and sustainable systems for communication, approvals, and story development
- Commission, edit, and approve work from staff and freelancers
- Collaborate with design and Roc Nation digital teams to maximize reach and engagement
- Use data and analytics to refine editorial strategy and audience engagement
- Explore new formats (video series, podcasts, interactive features) that expand storytelling potential
- Stay ahead of media trends, emerging technologies, and audience behaviors
- Maintain ownership of overall content and licensing strategy
- Manage editorial budgets, workflows, and production calendars
- Oversee content planning, production, and publication schedules across all platforms (web, social, video, audio, newsletters)
- Contribute to brand strategy, ensuring editorial goals align with revenue and audience growth objectives
- Work in tandem with Roc Nation legal to negotiate contracts with talent, vendors, freelancers, service providers, etc.
- Proven experience as an Editorial Director, Managing Editor, or senior editorial leadership role
- 5+ years of combined copywriting, editorial, or content strategy experience
- Background in media, culture, arts, lifestyle, or strongly preferred
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
- Strong project management skills with experience leading cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with analytics and reporting tools to measure editorial performance
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively across teams
- Candidates should be highly organized, deadline-driven, and adept at managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-profile environment
- Demonstrated ability to work with an editorial team, managing freelancers, and collaborating with other designers
- The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in contemporary media and curiosity for discovering new creatives across mediums, ensuring that their work upholds Roc Nation’s design standards while introducing innovative and culturally resonant storytelling
- Willingness to work some early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed
