The People’s Theatre (TPT) seeks an experienced Production Manager to lead production and technical operations for TPT productions and rental events as we prepare to open our new 20,000-square-foot performing arts center in Inwood in September 2026.

This role offers a unique opportunity to help establish the production systems and technical operations of a brand-new performing arts center, allowing the Production Manager to shape workflows, equipment use, and technical standards from the ground up.

This is a full-time, exempt position. The role will begin part-time/hourly in May 2026 and transition to full-time in July 2026.

Reporting to the Producing Director, the Production Manager will oversee production budgets, staffing, and scheduling for TPT productions while also providing technical guidance for rental clients. This role combines production management with hands-on technical leadership, ensuring all productions and events are delivered safely, efficiently, and on budget.

Key Responsibilities Production Management
  • Oversee production operations for TPT’s artistic season and rental events.
  • Oversee all phases of TPT productions, including planning, budgeting, rehearsals, performances, and strike.

  • Hire, schedule, and supervise technical staff, department heads, vendors, and freelance crew for TPT productions.
  • Partner with the General Manager to support rental clients; serve as the primary technical point of contact for rental productions/events.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication across artistic, administrative, and technical teams.
Technical Direction
  • Provide technical leadership across lighting, sound, carpentry, rigging, projection, and stage management.
  • Oversee maintenance, repair, and upgrades of production equipment; coordinate with staff, freelance technicians, and outside vendors as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce safety protocols in compliance with NYC theatre codes and industry standards.
  • Lead or support load-ins, strikes, and technical builds; troubleshoot production issues during rehearsals and performances.
Qualifications

  • Proven ability to manage production budgets, schedules, staffing, and vendor/freelance relationships across multiple projects.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills; calm, solutions-oriented problem-solver under pressure with a strong commitment to safety.
  • Excited to help establish workflows, equipment practices, and production standards in a new venue.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends during rehearsal and performance periods.
  • A strong network of NYC-based production crews, freelance technicians, and vendor contacts—or the ability to build those relationships quickly—is a plus.
  • Deep commitment to supporting and collaborating with immigrant communities.
