Associate Curator, Exhibition Manager

Art at Americas Society is the longest-standing private space in the United States dedicated to exhibiting and promoting art from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada.

We are seeking a full-time associate curator, exhibition manager to support the Art department by managing all exhibition logistics, production, and installation. This role will report to the director and chief curator, and will also be responsible for overseeing the gallery assistants and daily operations of the department.

Responsibilities
  • Provide curatorial assistance for all shows, including helping with artwork selection, supporting research efforts, writing and editing exhibition‑related texts.
  • Plan and execute multiple concurrent exhibitions, overseeing projects from concept through deinstallation.
  • Execute exhibition project management, including timelines, budgets, contracts, shipping, insurance, and vendor relationships.
  • Act as primary institutional liaison to artists, lenders, estates, galleries, designers, and fabricators.
Artwork registration
  • Maintain inventory of all artwork on‑site at Americas Society.
  • Arrange shipping and insurance for incoming and outgoing loans (domestic and international).
  • Create detailed condition reports of all incoming loans.
  • Supervise installation and de‑installation of artworks on‑site.
Exhibition production
  • Oversee exhibition design and installation strategy, including layouts, digital models, and installation methodologies.
  • Work with outside vendors and fabricators to produce furniture and installations.
  • Coordinate production, printing, and installation of wall texts, labels, and exhibition didactics.
  • Arrange installation of multimedia components of exhibitions including videos, projections and accompanying sound.
Communications
  • Oversee and approve all communications related to exhibitions, including promotional emails, social media content, and webpages.
Gallery operations
  • Schedule and supervise gallery installers, assistants, and interns.
  • Primary point of contact for accounting department in Visual Arts.
  • Provide programs support as needed, including planning public programs, supervising staff at the event, communicating with speakers/vendors.
  • Maintain organization of department’s files, both digital and physical, and ensure exhibition record keeping and accounting information is easily accessible.
  • Sign off on monthly expense reports and general department invoices.
Qualifications
  • Strong interest in art and/or Latin American culture.
  • A graduate degree in art history or a related field or 2‑3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage one’s time accordingly while working on multiple complex projects.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other standard office procedures and skills. Experience with Sketch Up a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
Work Schedule

Full time. Employees work on a hybrid schedule, with three days of the week spent in the office and two days remotely. Employees may be required to work onsite more than three days per week when programming demands. Occasional evening hours or weekend hours as needed for public programs and/or curatorial projects.

Salary range: $60k–$73k
