Work at the Core of UN Global News Production

This role is part of the English Language Unit, News Section I, under the News and Content Branch of the UN’s News and Media Division. This division produces high‑quality multimedia content—including news articles, audio reports, feature stories, and video materials—in nine languages. These products support global media outlets and advance the UN’s values of peace, human rights, and sustainable development.

Selected interns will work in a dynamic, fast‑paced newsroom environment and participate in real‑time news production.

Duties include:

  • Drafting English‑language news articles using press releases, UN briefings, official statements, and field reports
  • Proofreading and editing news content before and after publication
  • Conducting background research and supporting fact‑checking processes
  • Assisting in the development of multimedia content, including audio, graphics, and visual materials.
  • Pitching and writing in‑depth feature stories
  • Conducting interviews and participating in editorial meetings
  • Reviewing and enhancing the UN’s partnerships database, especially organizations focused on media literacy and fact‑checking
  • Supporting outreach and related tasks assigned by supervisors

Internships run for a minimum of 3 months and up to 6 months
, providing a strong platform for professional growth.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements:

  • Enrollment in or completion of a graduate‑level program (Master’s or equivalent) in journalism, communication, English, translation, public administration, or international relations; or
  • Enrollment in or completion of the final year of a Bachelor’s degree in one of these fields.

Other requirements include:

  • Solid computer literacy—especially proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams
  • Clear interest in the UN’s mission and global issues
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural, multi‑ethnic environments
  • Respect for diverse opinions and cultural backgrounds

It is important to note that children and siblings of UN staff members are not eligible for internships at the United Nations
