Design Director, Wovens

Summary:

The Senior Designer, Wovens plays a key role in the development and execution of the woven category, overseeing both structured and soft woven garments across all classifications. This position supports and helps lead the woven design team in partnership with the Design Director through all phases of the design process—from concept and seasonal vision through development, fittings, and final execution—while ensuring alignment with brand identity, business objectives, and commercial goals.

This role requires strong creative instincts, deep technical expertise, and the ability to translate business opportunities into brand-appropriate, compelling products. The Senior Designer works closely with Product Development, Merchandising, Technical Design, Production, and Fabric and Trim teams to ensure a cohesive, efficient process from concept to customer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Design Director, Wovens, and the Head of Design, lead research and concept development for the woven category in alignment with seasonal line plans, brand vision, and business objectives.
  • Partner with the Design Director to develop and present comprehensive design concepts, including research, sketching, draping, fabric manipulation, textile and surface development, and finishing mockups.
  • Ensure all designs thoughtfully consider fabric, construction, trims, finishes, artwork, and branding details appropriate to the woven category.
  • Collaborate with the Wovens Design Director to present focused design concepts to the Head of Design for inclusion in woven presentations to the Creative Director; evolve concepts based on feedback and continue development as needed.
  • Take ownership of assigned groups within the woven category from concept through final production, ensuring consistency of vision, quality, and execution across both structured and soft wovens.
  • Prioritize design and development initiatives in alignment with overseas calendars, seasonal milestones, and critical path deadlines.
  • Partner closely with Technical Design and Product Development to ensure accurate and complete communication of design intent to overseas factories.
  • Proactively identify potential risks or challenges during development and propose solution-oriented alternatives that maintain design integrity and production feasibility.
  • Delegate and manage design workflow across junior designers and interns, providing clear direction, feedback, and mentorship.
  • Ensure all design information—including fabric, trim, construction, artwork, and branding—is clearly documented and communicated.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Product Development, Technical Design, Pattern making) to maintain alignment and accountability throughout the process.
  • Work directly with Pattern making from initial draping through fittings and showroom sample execution.
  • Liaise with Fabric teams to ensure all woven fabrics are organized, tracked, and aligned with seasonal direction.
  • Partner with the Trim department to manage trims, artwork, and finishes specific to the woven category.
  • Oversee trim development and approvals, ensuring consistency with design intent, cost targets, and production requirements.
  • Create and maintain all styles in the system, ensuring accurate sketches, product descriptions, and classifications.
  • Track and update all design changes accurately and in real time.
  • Maintain and communicate updates to design boards to ensure visibility and alignment across teams.
  • Prepare and present clear, up-to-date design information for weekly Design Operations meetings.
  • Participate in pre-fittings of all prototypes to identify improvements and develop solutions ahead of proto reviews.
  • Support the Design Director in preparation for proto review meetings, ensuring all garments are reviewed, resolved, and aligned with the seasonal line plan.
  • Communicate SMS launches by style and SKU to Product Development and ensure systems and design boards reflect accurate launch status.
  • Review all SMS upon arrival and coordinate necessary adjustments or corrections.
  • Participate in SMS fittings through TOP samples, ensuring fit comments, design intent, and execution details are clearly communicated and resolved.
  • Support the Head of Design in preparation for styling meetings, ensuring SMS are present, organized by line sheet, and supported with supplemental materials as needed.
  • Participate in styling and fitting the collection for shows, presentations, and/or lookbooks.
  • Contribute to overall line coherence and storytelling through styling and presentation support.
  • Participate in BOM reviews with the ability to make informed, solution-oriented decisions regarding trims, counter-sourcing, and sales call-outs.
  • Maintain close collaboration with Technical Design, Product Development, Merchandising, and Production to balance creative intent, cost, and manufacturability through final delivery.
