Position Summary
The Design Room Technical Designer for Halston Sportswear & Dresses partners closely with the Design Director and Head Designer to develop accurate, production-ready tech packs for showroom samples. This role manages the product lifecycle from initial sketch through showroom sample completion while ensuring design intent, fit, construction, and quality standards are met.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced design environment. This role requires strong technical knowledge, an eye for proportion and garment construction, and the ability to translate creative concepts into executable technical specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Product Lifecycle Management
- Manage the product development lifecycle from sketch through showroom sample completion.
- Maintain seasonal calendars and track SRS deadlines to ensure all market appointment milestones are met.
- Partner with Design and Production teams to develop cost-effective styles while maintaining brand standards.
Technical Design & Sample Development
- Create detailed, computerized technical specification packages and tech packs.
- Review and evaluate samples for fit, construction, pattern accuracy, proportions, and design integrity.
- Communicate technical corrections using digital photos, sketches, and detailed written feedback.
Systems & Process Management
- Utilize PLM, File Maker (training provided), and Photoshop to manage product data and technical documentation.
- Request and maintain FDS information and related documentation for File Maker cost cards.
- Ensure cost cards are accurate and updated throughout development and buy phases.
- Communicate directly with overseas offices and vendors to resolve garment construction and development issues.
- Help coordinate fabric delivery from suppliers to factories for sample production, including managing urgent shipments when needed.
- Build strong working relationships with cross-functional partners to support efficient product execution.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- 2–5 years of technical design experience with a focus on first sample creation and design room development.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
- Experience working with Sportswear and/or Dresses strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to develop finished garments from concept through sample stage.
- Strong working knowledge of PLM systems and Adobe Photoshop.
- Excellent project management and multitasking abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Confident verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume design environment.
- Strong relationship-building skills with internal teams and overseas partners.

Compensation
Pay Range: $90,000 – $110,000 per year
This compensation range represents a good-faith estimate and is provided in accordance with the New York City Salary Transparency Law. Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
