ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITYAn Alterations Specialist with advanced draping skills is responsible for providing exemplary draping expertise in-house at our New York Flagship Atelier on Madison Avenue. This includes but not limited to, expectations related to fit, custom modifications, and re-sizing of garments.
ABOUT YOU- 5+ years of sewing and draping experience in evening gowns or bridal alterations environment
- Specialty in handling lace, beadwork, silks and tulle
- Advanced technical skills (sewing, pattern, draping, construction)
- Experience operating an industrial sewing machine and industrial pressing iron
- Expert knowledge of garment construction/fit
- Ability to maintain professional communication with colleagues
- Ability to multitask projects and manage time in an in a team environment
- Availability to work 8+ hour days and be available on nights and weekends in a fast-paced environment based on business needs
- Sew garments fitted and assigned by Alterations Manager, ensuring timely completion
- Execute all aspects of sewing to deliver high-quality alterations and finishes, including machine sewing, hand finishing, draping, cutting, bustling, and pressing
- Utilize draping techniques to create patterns and achieve desired fit for clients
- Accurately measure and mark garments according to Monique Lhuillier Alterations guidelines
- Responsible for starting and completing individually assigned projects
- Follow and complete alterations instructions provided from an instructions card
- Customize gowns by downsizing or upsizing, creating sleeves, enhancing coverage, etc.
- Collaborate with team members to manage workload and meet deadlines
A reasonable estimate of the current hourly rate is $, annualized from $52,000 - $62,400. The rate of pay offered may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
If chosen for the interview, you will be required to pass a sewing skills test. A fully pinned garment will be presented to you to execute. The alterations will consist of a combination of work on the bust, zipper, hem, and handwork.
