We are looking for a knowledgable fashion writer interested in covering NYFW on a freelance basis for publication with our new magazine, The Fashion Atlas. This opportunity is ideal for those with a passion for the fashion world and looking to build a published work portfolio for next steps in their career, or building knowledge as a new face in the industry.
Please be aware that this role is contracted on a volunteer basis with promise of publication of your writing and work on a reputable new media site with established connections. This is a valuable opportunity to learn with a respected experienced team, add published writing to your resume, learn the process of media publication and its platforms, and meet new network connections to break into the fashion industry scene with a strong start.
Applicants based locally in New York City may have the opportunity to attend events on behalf of the publication to record live content and notes for written articles where the editorial team is unable to accommodate in-person attendance for runway shows or similar events. Please note this is not guaranteed nor is it required to be New York City local to apply for this opportunity.
We are a small team with an honest voice and a focus and reputation for quality work. Please do not apply if you have no prior writing or fashion work experience, as it is required for this opportunity.
Students welcome! We are happy to provide letters of reference and validation for school credit if requested.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with our photographer and editorial team for prompt publication of social media and written coverage. Daily brief check-in texts are ideal to confirm there are no gaps! You will work most closely with our Editor-in-Chief.
- If NYC local: note show schedules and the opportunity to cover NYFW events where needed by the team (flexible schedule for NYFW dates is required.)
- Write and promptly publish one article per show and optional other opinion articles. All articles will be reviewed and shared with industry coaching feedback from our Editor-in-Chief before publication.
- Provide show notes and content to the team as requested for publication. You are also welcome to post any content on your own platforms, as long as it is provided to the publication first.
- Permit your work to be published with credit on The Fashion Atlas' and team's platforms.
- Communicate with PR firms and other production teams where needed.
- Assist with check-in for press and riser spacing for photography team if needed.
Prior writing samples, a strong understanding of and passion for fashion including designers and technical terms, and a creative eye with an honest voice. Fashion Week or industry experience is ideal but not mandatory for the right candidate willing to learn. Great communication and grammatical skills are a must!
