Overview
The Marketing team at MoMA is part of the External Affairs Department, which leads the Museum’s strategic vision for development and fundraising, special programming and events, membership, marketing and creative strategy, and communications and public affairs. Marketing brings together experts in strategy, content, and audience development to expand MoMAs reach and deepen engagement, supporting the Museum’s visitation and revenue goals. Grounded in MoMA’s mission to share the art of our time, the team builds meaningful connections with new and existing audiences.
Social media is a key pillar of this work, serving as a powerful platform to extend MoMA’s influence, spark dialogue, and drive audience growth.
Position Summary:
The Social Media Coordinator plays a central role in shaping MoMA’s digital presence, assisting with social strategy and content creation to support visitation and revenue. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Social Media, this role supports all aspects of the Museum’s social media strategy, including content calendar management. The Social Media Coordinator will amplify MoMA’s dynamic program calendar while keeping the Museum the center of global cultural conversations.
Responsibilities- Supports all aspects of the Museum’s social media strategy, including project management, asset sourcing, and coordination with internal stakeholders, agencies, and external partners to fulfill social media goals and inbound requests.
- Proposes fresh, engaging content ideas for MoMA’s social media channels based on the Museum’s collection and exhibition schedule.
- Creates content for MoMA’s social media channels from start to finish, working cross functionally with other departments in the Museum to execute image sourcing, video creation, copywriting, and research as needed.
- Shoots video and photography on iPhone; DSLR and/or mirrorless camera, as well as gimbal, microphones, ring light, and other associated equipment.
- Manages monthly content calendar and ensures content delivery remains on schedule.
- Coordinates creation of social media assets with content and design teams.
- Secures approvals as needed, including coordination of image rights and sponsor recognition.
- Supports influencer marketing strategy and delivery.
- Monitors and responds to inquiries and comments on MoMA’s social media channels.
- Stays abreast of emerging trends and technologies to identify opportunities and engage new partners.
- Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least two years professional experience in social media and digital marketing. Art history, studio art, film, or associated majors preferred, but not required.
- Experience with short form video content creation preferred.
- Strong written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven project management and multi-tasking skills and ability to work independently, proactively, collaboratively, and effectively under pressure.
- Experience with analytics tools for social media platforms preferred.
- Experience with Sprout Social, Asana, or similar social media management and project management programs.
- Creative thinker and problem solver who can clearly articulate ideas, frame challenges, highlight opportunities, and offer solutions.
- Interest and enthusiasm for the work of MoMA and knowledge of art and non-profit cultural world.
Reports to: Senior Manager, Social Media Marketing
Salary: The salary for this position is $65,567 per annum.
