Summary
The Conservation Division of the New York Public Library announces an opening starting September 2026 for a Post-Graduate Conservator in Paper and/or Photographic Materials, a two year, full time position with benefits and including generous support for professional development.
This position provides a newly graduated paper or photograph conservator—or a conservator focusing on both specialties—the opportunity to collaborate, learn, contribute to, and work in a vibrant and full conservation lab that supports the varied, unique, and immense collections of NYPL’s three research centers.
Key DetailsThis position is located in the Library’s Conservation Division, the staff of which consists of a team of conservators and technicians specializing in bound, flat, and photographic materials.
Schedule: Generally 9-5, M-F, 35 hours a week
EligibilityRequired Education and Certifications
- Graduate degree in conservation with a focus on paper and/or photographic materials
- Active membership in AIC (or similar organization such as CACC or ICON) and relevant Specialty Group
Required Experience
- Conservation experience in a conservation lab treating paper and/or photographic materials
Required Skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Flexibility of mind and commitment to collaboration, growth, and improvement
- Fluency with Google Suite

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- At rare times may be sole staff member present for Pages or Interns
