Overview
I’m currently seeking an Assistant Wedding Photographer to join my team for the upcoming wedding season, with opportunities for long-term growth into a Second Photographer and eventually Associate / Lead Photographer roles.
This position is ideal for someone who is technically confident, film-curious (or film-obsessed), and excited to learn within a documentary-meets–fine-art wedding environment.
Responsibilities- Assist on wedding days by supporting lead coverage, managing gear, and anticipating moments
- Photograph details, candids, and secondary angles as skills progress
- Load, shoot, and handle 35mm film confidently on wedding days
- Shadow several weddings before stepping into a second photographer role
- Communicate professionally with couples, vendors, and the photography team
- Uphold a calm, supportive presence throughout long wedding days
- NYC or NJ–based (must be local and able to travel within the region)
- Canon mirrorless shooter (required)
- Own 35mm film camera (required)
- Strong working knowledge of 35mm film (minimum requirement)
- Medium format film experience preferred
- Prior wedding experience is a plus (assistant, second shooter, or lead)
- Ability to work weekends and long event days
- Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented
- Initial role begins with shadowing and assisting
- Opportunity to advance into Second Photographer role
- Long-term potential for Associate / Lead Photographer growth
- Mentorship in wedding workflow, film integration, and client experience
- $50–$100/hour
