Overview
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Deputy Editor to join its Live Journalism team based in New York. This senior role requires a unique combination of strategic editorial leadership and production expertise to shape WSJ's live journalism programming, including conferences like Tech Live and The Future of Everything, as well as the Journal’s presence at summits like the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
At a time when AI and digital disruption are reshaping the media landscape, live events have become essential for reinforcing trust in authoritative news brands and creating meaningful connections with audiences. In-person gatherings provide an opportunity to demonstrate journalistic rigor, foster community and deliver the kind of authentic, unfiltered conversations that distinguish premium journalism.
In this position, you will shape content strategy and editorial direction for WSJ events while working with a team of journalists who source and book news-making interviews with CEOs, policymakers and industry leaders. You will prep senior newsroom leaders for high-profile interviews and collaborate with a range of desks to coordinate coverage appearing in print, video, social and audio formats. You will also work with commercial-side colleagues to ensure standards across marketing, sales and logistics execution.
We are looking for an energetic professional with bold ideas, a willingness to experiment and the gumption to challenge the status quo.
Ideal candidates are seasoned editors with strong supervising producer skills who understand the nuances of video and audio production. You should be a confident editorial leader who can manage multiple stakeholders, balance breaking news with long-term strategic planning and elevate the quality and impact of WSJ's live journalism across all platforms. Top candidates will have extensive experience in news media, with proven success in editorial leadership, cultivating high-level relationships and producing compelling multimedia content for live events, video and podcasts.
Because this is a global news operation, candidates need to be effective communicators with strong news judgment, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across editorial and business teams.
All interested candidates should submit a cover letter clearly outlining how their skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements by February 23rd. Please include links to events or multimedia segments that demonstrate your ability to lead editorial strategy and produce high-profile interviews across video, audio and live experiences.
The role will report to the Editor of Live Journalism.
