Job DescriptionThe NBC News Breaking News Specials team seeks a seasoned Senior Producer to drive our weekend breaking-news coverage and contribute to Specials/Nightly News. You will lead editorial and operational execution when news breaks, ensuring broadcasts are fast, accurate, and compelling.
Responsibilities- Lead live breaking-news coverage during major events
- Coordinate with control-room staff, on-air talent, and field reporters
- Make split-second editorial decisions that uphold accuracy and clarity
- Serve as the primary editorial lead for Saturday and Sunday coverage for NBC News Specials and NOW
- Contribute to Specials/Nightly News on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
- Collaborate with the Specials team on major-event planning and execution
- Partner with technical, graphics, audio, and talent departments to maintain top-tier production quality
- Produce live cut-ins, special segments, and additional content as needed
- Minimum 6 years in broadcast or cable news production, including 3 years on breaking-news or live-event teams
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent newsroom experience
- Proven track record of rapid, accurate editorial judgment under deadline pressure
- Expertise in control-room operations from rundown creation through final sign-off
- Proficiency with automated control-room systems and rundown tools—or clear aptitude to learn them quickly
- Flexibility to work overnights, weekends, and be on call for urgent breaking events
- Willingness and ability to work in person at 30 Rock five days a week (Friday–Tuesday)
- Willingness and ability to backfill the Overnight Weekend Senior in person at 30 Rock approx. five weekends a year
- A calm, decisive leader who thrives in high-pressure breaking-news situations
- Collaborative mentor dedicated to developing emerging talent
- A clear, concise communicator, both in writing and on-air direction
- Exceptional editorial judgment and the ability to steer a team through chaotic live events
- Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

Salary range: $125,000 - $170,000
