Job Title:

Senior Designer – Private Label

Position Summary

The Senior Designer – Private Label is responsible for leading the design development process for the Investments and Westbound brands within the Dillard’s private label portfolio. This role partners closely with Dillard’s Product Development teams, internal cross‑functional partners, and an Associate Designer to create proprietary, trend‑right, and commercially successful product. The Senior Designer oversees concept creation, fabric/print development, fit execution, and seasonal line building, ensuring on‑time delivery and alignment with brand strategy, margin goals, and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities Design Development & Line Creation
  • Manage the end‑to‑end design development process for Investments and Westbound private label product.
  • Partner with Dillard’s Product Development to create proprietary designs that align with brand positioning, customer needs, and margin targets.
  • Translate trend, market insights, and seasonal direction into cohesive assortments and product concepts.
  • Direct the Associate Designer through all phases of design development, sketching, CADs, and execution.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Sales, Sourcing, and Product Development to identify market needs, alignment opportunities, and product strategies.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Dillard’s Product Development (PD) and Technical Design (TD) teams throughout the development and approval cycle (DPS).
  • Collaborate with sourcing teams on fabric research, swatch development, and print execution to ensure cost‑effective, high‑quality options.
Trend, Color, Fabric & Print Direction
  • Conduct research in color, trend, fabric, and silhouette direction for each season.
  • Lead development of trend decks, color palettes, print direction, and seasonal design presentations.
  • Oversee sample shopping activities, including purchasing and returning samples for concept and development reference.
Fit & Technical Execution
  • Work closely with Technical Design to ensure product fit, construction, and specifications meet target customer expectations and price points.
  • Participate in fit sessions, provide design feedback, and guide product refinement through approvals.
  • Ensure final garments meet brand standards for quality, consistency, and overall execution.
Calendar Management & Process Ownership
  • Monitor and manage the full Time & Action (T&A) calendar to ensure all private label milestones are met.
  • Ensure timely delivery of sketches, CADs, tech packs, development samples, and presentations.
  • Maintain organized, accurate documentation throughout the design and approval lifecycle.
Tools & Systems

Create and maintain design files, sketches, presentations, and tech information using:

  • Illustrator
  • Photoshop
  • Excel
  • Power Point
  • Google Slides
  • Use design and development tools to deliver professional, brand‑right presentations to Dillard’s.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in apparel design, ideally with private label or department store accounts.
  • Strong understanding of women’s woven/knit categories, fabric development, and garment construction.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design development across multiple product categories or brands.
  • Experience partnering with merchant, sourcing, and technical teams; comfortable working directly with retailer PD/TD partners.
  • Strong trend awareness with the ability to translate insights into commercial product.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Slides required.

Salary $110,000-$120,000
