The Production department works through the Program Office team to bring artist and creator visions to life by providing audio and visual production support. There are multiple events each day; events can include music and orchestral productions, visual presentations, special functions, lectures, conferences, and meetings. Shift start times vary from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

About Your Compensation

Compensation for this position starts at $16.00/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $18.00/Hour.

About Your Work Day

Provide exceptional and seamless audio support for special events throughout the grounds, primarily mixing audio in the Hall of Philosophy and Hall of Christ, ensure they meet Chautauqua Institution requirements and standards.

Assist with troubleshooting technical problems as they arise.

Mix and regulate sound inputs and feeds or coordinate audio feeds with additional production and broadcast crews.

Assist additional production crews as needed across all Institution properties.

Ensure all audio requirements for the assigned venue are met to support effective event operations.

Assist with rigging, cabling, and dismantling sound systems, speakers, and microphones for shows and events.

Move, stage, and organize equipment as assigned, performing additional manual labor tasks as needed.

Mic and prepare talent for events, including placement, troubleshooting, and monitoring to ensure clear, reliable audio during events.

Communicates via radio with other staff members to ensure smooth operations.

Transport a variety of production equipment via golf cart; driver’s license is required.

Provide general maintenance of assigned facilities. Including cleaning, checking inventory, organization and preventive maintenance.

Ensure adherence to safety procedures and best practices to maintain a safe working environment for crew, performers, and patrons.

Foster positive, professional communication with crew members, performers, presenters, patrons, and staff to ensure a smooth and welcoming production environment.

Reports directly to the Program Production Manager and subsequently the Amphitheater Production Manager.

Education

Associates or better in Broadcast & Electric Media or related field.

Experience
  • 1 Year: Knowledge and experience within instrumental ensemble set-ups.
  • 2-4 Years: Any combination of education and experience in live audio mixing beneficial.

This is an entry level position with a growth path to being an member of the major venue audio crew.

Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90‑days from the first physical date of work.

In the case of seasonal positions working less than 6‑months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30‑days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August.
