The VFX Supervisor for Vertical Content leads the creative and technical execution of visual effects across all vertical-format productions. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining the visual style, supervising the VFX pipeline, and completing hands-on VFX work as needed to meet deadlines. The ideal candidate combines a cinematic eye with strong technical expertise, thrives in an agile, collaborative environment, and is comfortable both guiding a team and contributing directly to VFX shots.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all VFX work from concept through final delivery for vertical and short-form content.
- Collaborate with directors, producers, and editors to define the visual effects look and ensure creative alignment.
- Complete hands-on VFX work for shots to meet project deadlines or quality standards.
- Source and supervise external VFX artists, setting priorities, reviewing shots, and providing feedback.
- Manage on-set VFX needs including data capture, green screen, tracking, and lighting references.
- Develop efficient workflows optimized for vertical aspect ratios and fast-turnaround schedules.
- Coordinate with editorial, color, and finishing teams to ensure seamless integration of VFX shots.
- Review and approve shots for quality control, consistency, and creative intent.
- Advise production teams on technical requirements, budgets, and scheduling for VFX-heavy scenes.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging VFX technologies, AI tools, and mobile rendering pipelines.
- Ensure all deliverables meet technical specifications for social and streaming platforms (Tik Tok, Instagram Reels, You Tube Shorts, etc.).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Visual Effects, Animation, Film Production, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience delivering VFX for digital, short-form, or vertical content.
- Hands-on experience with compositing, tracking, rotoscoping, and 3D integration.
- Proficiency with industry-standard software (After Effects, Nuke, Blender, Maya, Houdini, etc.).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and time management skills.
- Deep understanding of vertical framing, mobile-first viewing, and short-form storytelling dynamics.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with real-time VFX or virtual production (Unreal Engine, Unity).
- Familiarity with AI-assisted VFX tools and motion-tracking software.
- Strong eye for color, composition, and cinematic realism.
- Ability to balance creative vision with technical efficiency.
- Comfortable working in a high-volume, fast-paced production environment.
- Able to work on multiple projects at once.
