The Marketing and Media Generalist is a full-time, onsite position, reporting to the Manager, Public Relations and Special Media Projects.
The Marketing and Media Generalist creates engaging content for the Corning Museum of Glass (Museum) across print, web, digital, and social media. They will support media relations by coordinating with local outlets, responding to inquiries, and track coverage. The role includes writing and editing for various audiences, assisting with graphic design and production, and coordinating projects while monitoring progress and reporting outcomes.
Responsibilities(

- Work with Manager, Public Relations and Special Media Projects, to develop and pitch stories and outreach strategies for local and regional media. Answer media inquiries, develop talking points, and coordinate media visits and appearances*
- Maintain weekly events alert to all local and regional media contacts and coordinate response to ensure consistent coverage and relationships with media members*
- Coordinate the Museum’s media database, ensuring all aspects of the platform are fully utilized. Ensure that press contact lists are up-to-date and appropriately targeted and build additional media lists for opportunities that arise
- Monitor and report on media coverage using the Museum’s media monitoring services.
- Assist in development of press materials and coordinate media logistics*
- Help maintain the online press room and distribute press releases. Serve as Power User for the Press Center and Blog sections on cmog.org
- Serve as content contributor: write edits, and proofread for press releases, media pitches, email communications, social media posts, blog articles, and Member magazine, as needed*
- Check for consistency in messaging, style, voice, and brand across Museum communications
- Support email creation, strategy, and delivery*
- Support photography and short-form video capture, editing, and distribution to increase views and engagement, and to impact brand awareness
- Support Social Media and Photography Specialist in drafting social posts for Museum social media channels, and input approved content into the Museum’s publishing platforms
- Provide backup for livestream moderation and photography, as needed
- Build and help to track integrated, cross-departmental marketing plans, communicating timelines with stakeholders
- Assist with the graphic design production process
- Copyedit and review requested projects, helping to ensure quality control across the Museum and enforce brand and style standards*
- Assist with fundamental graphic design work, including design file modification and art file manipulation, while maintaining design intent
- Actively and intentionally support CMOG’s commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion*
- Actively support the Museum’s Advancement initiatives
- Support adding metadata into image files to improve searchability in Piction
- Demonstrated experience creating content with the ability to maintain appropriate voice for different audiences and to write in a compelling, accessible way
- Experience developing content for social media channels. Demonstrated proficiency using Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, You Tube, metadata tools including Adobe Bridge, Sprout Social, Mailchimp and other social media analytics
- Experience using media monitoring services and project management tracking platforms helpful. Critical Mention, a plus
- Experience in photo and video capture a plus
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, MS Teams, SharePoint; familiarity with or ability to learn Adobe CS5, Canva, online collaborative project management platforms and reporting tools
- Familiarity with or ability to learn web content management systems and third-party email design and distribution systems
- Two (2) years or equivalent of experience working in hospitality and tourism, arts and culture, or non-profit desired
- Respect and exemplify the mission, vision, and values of the Corning Museum of Glass in all interactions with colleagues, staff, volunteers and the public
