New York Edge Curriculum & Instructional Technology Department is seeking passionate and enthusiastic individuals to fill the part‑time role of Audio Engineering Specialist to boost our new music initiative, The New York Edge Music Production Academy. This program is designed for middle and high school students participating in our after‑school program. As an Audio Engineering Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in nurturing the next wave of music producers and engineers.
Key responsibilities include:
implementing curriculum, developing student projects, coordinating performances and showcases, collaborating with departmental teams, fostering student development, mentoring, assessing progress, and managing the studio. You will report directly to Jasmin Martinez, Instructional Technology Manager.
Location:
2225 Webster Avenue, Bronx, NY 10457 and 116 E 169th St, Bronx, NY 10452.
Part‑time – up to 20 hrs per week.
This role requires in‑person attendance.
- Curriculum Implementation:
Ensure effective execution of the provided curriculum, meeting all specified learning objectives and adapt as needed. - Project Creation and Management:
Develop captivating student projects that promote practical skills and encourage creativity in music production, providing guidance throughout. - Performance Planning and Facilitation:
Organize and supervise on‑site student performances, showcases, and events, including on‑stage setup and audio engineering. - Departmental
Collaboration:
Collaborate with fellow team members and contribute to continuous improvement of the music production education program. - Student Development:
Create a nurturing learning environment that motivates students to explore their creative potential and provide individualized support. - Mentorship:
Provide guidance to help students develop musical talents and pursue careers in the music industry. - Assessment:
Evaluate student progress and provide feedback for improvement. - Studio Management:
Oversee the studio, ensuring necessary hardware and software, conduct routine inventory checks, and review equipment safety protocols.
- Significant hands‑on experience in music production studios, demonstrating a solid command of recording, mixing, and mastering techniques.
- Proficient in industry‑standard software, particularly Pro Tools and other relevant DAWs.
- Solid foundation in music theory, composition, and arrangement, able to guide students across diverse genres.
- Preferred background in music or production‑related education.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.
- Ability to inspire creativity and encourage innovative approaches to music production.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple student projects, events, and administrative tasks.
- Passion for music education and dedication to nurturing student growth and development.
- High School Diploma required; some college preferred.
- Degree or diploma in music production, audio engineering, or related field is advantageous.
At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
