Construction Manager

Overview

Job Summary:

The Construction Management Lead oversees the full spectrum of construction management activities, leading teams and ensuring all phases of construction projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in line with the organization’s standards for quality, cost, and schedule. This role involves strategic planning, resource management, and partnership with internal and external stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes. The Lead will direct several intermediate-scale projects or one large project and must demonstrate advanced practical and conceptual expertise in construction management

• Safety Leadership: Champion a zero-incident safety culture by promoting and enforcing construction safety best practices across contracts.
• Project Leadership: Provide direct leadership and oversight to construction staff, ensuring all aspects of safety, quality, schedule, and cost are proactively managed.
• Resource & Planning Management: Develop and execute detailed construction management plans outlining resource requirements; collaborate with Project Managers and Resource Leaders to resolve gaps or discrepancies.
• Budget Control: Partner to align construction budgets with resource plans; manage and control construction costs, including contractor and labor agreements.
• Front End Loading (FEL) Participation: Offer construction expertise during project planning to optimize constructability and minimize costs.
• Contractor Management: Provide input to contract labor strategies, manage contractor performance, resolve claims, and ensure cost control.
• Work Process Expertise: Utilize and champion the Global Capital Work Process (GPM) or similar disciplines, engaging with expertise networks.
• Schedule Monitoring: Support the development and integration of construction schedules; ensure adherence to timelines and communicate deviations proactively.
• Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee quality plans to minimize start-up and operability issues.
• Coaching & Development: Mentor junior and less-experienced personnel to build team capability and performance.
• Best Practice Adoption: Drive continuous improvement by implementing best-in-class construction methods, technologies, and processes.

Provide feedback to relevant business units on effective technologies and practices for ongoing improvement.

• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills within construction management.
• In-depth understanding of construction management practices, constructability, and safety standards.
• Proven experience managing contractors, labor agreements, and construction-related budgets.
• Experience leading teams on large, site-executed capital projects.
• Advanced skills in planning, scheduling, and cost management.
• Working knowledge of the Global Capital Work Process (GPM) or similar frameworks.
• Ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members effectively.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field strongly preferred; or
• Equivalent years of relevant construction experience in lieu of degree.
