The Structural Steel Superintendent is responsible for the planning, coordination, supervision, and execution of all structural steel operations on large-scale building and bridge projects. This role leads ironworker crews, ensures strict adherence to safety and quality standards, coordinates with fabricators and project teams, and delivers work safely, on schedule, and in compliance with contract requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, manage, and supervise ironworker crews and foremen to achieve project milestones and schedule commitments.
- Champion a strong safety culture, enforce corporate safety programs, and ensure compliance with OSHA and site-specific safety requirements.
- Oversee structural steel erection and installation for buildings and bridge structures, including sequencing, rigging, and erection methods.
- Provide technical leadership and direction to field personnel regarding means, methods, drawings, and specifications.
- Review, interpret, and enforce contract documents, including drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Coordinate closely with steel fabricators, detailers, and delivery teams to ensure timely, accurate material delivery and site logistics.
- Monitor and verify quality of workmanship, ensuring all steel installation aligns with approved shop drawings, erection plans, and governing codes.
- Review, mark up, and resolve issues related to shop drawings and erection drawings.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and contract requirements throughout all phases of construction.
- Collaborate with project management, engineering, and inspection teams to resolve field issues and maintain productivity.
- Proactively identify and resolve constructability, sequencing, and coordination challenges.
- 20+ years of experience as a Structural Steel Superintendent or similar leadership role.
- Extensive experience with structural steel for buildings and bridges, including complex erection sequencing.
- Strong working knowledge of union ironworker work rules and labor coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Proven critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in fast-paced field environments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead crews, interface with fabricators, and coordinate with project stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct drawing or field discrepancies.
- OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 certification required.
- Authorized to work in the United States (I-9 compliant).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Salary Range: $170,000 – $230,000 annually
