Do you enjoy working outdoors? Do you enjoy work that benefits the community by making the world a greener place? Join our dynamic team of Arborists, Engineers and Construction Management Specialists as we work together to improve the green infrastructure of NYC!
We are seeking to hire multiple Landscape Construction Inspectors to join our team to work on projects for NYC Parks within the five boroughs of NYC. This position will work full‑time, with intermittent opportunities for overtime.
This position will utilize your technical knowledge and experience to help guide the City's tree preservation and street tree programs. As you grow with Arcadis, you will become involved with other NYC Parks programs, and with other City agencies, all with a focus on the City's urban forest and other natural systems such as the Staten Island Bluebelt and park restoration projects.
Roleaccountabilities
As a Landscape Construction Inspector, you will conduct daily inspections, supervise, and control construction activities to ensure the overall safety of the site, compliance with permit conditions, and coordination with other city agencies is being maintained. You will closely monitor and supervise the performance of the contractors to ensure they adhere to technical requirements and maintain a high level of responsiveness and effectiveness.
Construction work includes but is not limited to excavation, tree planting, stump and tree removals, concrete restorations, and saw cutting operations.
In addition, you will be responsible for conducting on‑site measurements, tracking quantities, and performing design work before and during the construction process. These tasks will help you accurately assess the progress and quality of the project.
You will regularly report to the resident engineer, project lead, and professional engineer (PE) overseeing the programs to keep them informed. This will ensure effective communication and decision‑making throughout projects.
You will be required to maintain daily, weekly, and expert tracking records, as well as a responsibility for verifying quantities and line items in the field with contractors and clients. Holding and attending field meetings with both the contractor and owner to discuss progress, schedules, and work remaining will be imperative to ensuring work progress proceeds in a timely manner. You will need to function as an ambassador for the city's urban forest resources during interactions with the city's residents and landowners, and will administer all health and safety (H& S) procedures as necessary.
This role directly relates to construction and maintenance activities of and around NYC Street and Park Trees. Participation in a green infrastructure mentorship program is required where you will gain valuable knowledge and skills related to environmentally friendly construction practices, allowing you to contribute to sustainable and eco‑conscious initiatives.
