North Shore Youth Council (NSYC), a not-for-profit community-based agency, is seeking energetic and enthusiastic individuals to join our team working in our child care programs for the school year. Our programs take place before and after school and service youth in kindergarten through fifth grade in the Mount Sinai, Rocky Point, and Shoreham-Wading River School Districts. Child care workers work under the direction of the Site Director and are responsible for facilitating the daily lesson plans to children.
Programs provide morning and afternoon child care and enrichment when school is in session, Monday through Friday, in the mornings from 6:45 AM to 9:30 AM and in the afternoons from 1:45 PM to 6:00 PM (actual program hours vary based on school). This is a part-time position that follows the school district calendar.

* Job duties:

-Facilitate the daily/weekly lesson plan and activities as directed by the Site Supervisor.
-Provide direct leadership to the assigned group unless relieved properly by an appropriate staff person.
-Maintain constant visual contact with all assigned children.
-Maintain a safe and clean program area that complies with all standards and regulations of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and agency policies.
-Develop and maintain a positive relationship with children, parents, school personnel, and NSYC staff.
-Interact with children in a variety of both indoor and outdoor settings to provide a positive learning environment.
-Attend all required training sessions and staff meetings.
-Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

* Qualifications:

-High school diploma, or equivalent, required.
-Must be at least 18 years old.
-Must have at least one year of experience working with children under the age of 13.
-Must be able to provide credentials, licenses, and/or certifications and submit to fingerprinting and background checks.
-Knowledge, experience, and skills in the areas of child development, values, education, and group activities, a plus.
- Experience with special needs students, a plus. xrlwcon
-Valid First Aid and CPR certifications are a plus, but will provide training.
