Overview
Position: COORDINATOR OF CHILD CARE & RECREATION
Reports to: Assistant Program Director
Functions The Child Care and Recreational Coordinator manages and administers a comprehensive program of early childhood development and recreational services, including assessment, linkage to health, educational programs and other services in order to assist the families with their children. He/she is responsible for expanding the project for the benefit of the families (i.e., responding to RFPs, grants, etc.).
Principal Accountabilities- Control the quality of services provided through regular formal supervision, case consultation and monthly staff meetings to ensure a high standard of care.
- Provide oversight and weekly supervision to the Child Care and Recreation staff.
- Manage the timely collection and analysis of program data to generate reports, evaluate program performance and determine unmet needs.
- Establish an on-going program of training and staff development to ensure professional, informed service and to up-grade staff skills.
- Fill in whenever necessary as a teacher.
- Share responsibility for ensuring that all equipment and materials are accessible and in good condition in order to encourage maximum constructive use by the children.
- Assist in planning the use of community resources to enrich the educational content of the children’s program.
- Ensuring that intake assessments are conducted on all children enrolled in the program.
- Ensuring that progress notes are maintained and up-to-date on all children enrolled in the program.
- Overseeing the food program and kitchen.
- Perform other related duties as may be requested by agency heads.
- Services are delivered to the children so that their parents can pursue important activities (i.e., educational/training programs, search for permanent housing, search for employment, attend day programs, etc).
- Services are delivered to children in an effective and humane manner.
- The shelter is recognized by advocacy groups, other social service agencies and by the residents as a provider of quality services, thereby maintaining a positive image.
- Compliance with contractual obligations and government regulations is maintained and expanded.
- To ensure that all residents are treated in a humane and courteous manner.
The Child Care and Recreational Coordinator holds a position and supervises staff in positions not generally associated with social services. It is therefore particularly important that the incumbent understand and convey to subordinates that they are part of an interdisciplinary team and share a goal, the provision of services to victims of domestic violence, maintaining a safe and secure shelter, and the provision of services that will facilitate the successful relocation to permanent housing.
All staff are expected to interact with clients in a supportive and positive way, maintaining as high a standard of professionalism as any other staff.
Qualifications:
Qualified teacher with a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education/Development, minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or two (2) years’ experience as a group teacher in a program for children under six years of age with no less than one (1) year experience as a supervisor.
Because of the high degree of responsibility required to oversee the service and its residents, the position requires a high skill level in written and verbal communication, independent judgment and the ability to develop positive personal relations. The position requires excellent grant writing and communication skills.

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $71,716.84.
