Overview

Camp Northwoods Counselors supervise groups of up to 28 children entering grades 1 – 8, and assist the Camp Director and Assistant Director in day-to-day operations and weekly field trips to recreational and historical sites. Counselors lead activities in arts and crafts, hiking, games, and help supervise instruction in swimming and ceramics. This is a temporary, full-time position from June 22 - August 14, 2026.

Counselors must be at least 16 years old and are expected to be mature, responsible, creative, fun, energetic, and team-oriented. Experience in a camp setting or with young children is preferred; excellent references are required. Candidates pursuing education in Early Childhood Education will be strongly considered. Employment is contingent upon acceptable results of a pre-employment background check. Sixteen and seventeen-year-olds must submit a New York State Employment Certificate (working papers) from their school guidance office.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise groups of up to 28 children in grades 1–8 as part of a collaborative team with the Camp Director and Assistant Director.
  • Lead activities in arts and crafts, hiking, games, and other camp activities; assist in supervising instruction in swimming and ceramics.
  • Participate in weekly field trips to recreational and historical sites.
Qualifications
  • Certification in Red Cross Response to Emergency Training, CPR, and First Aid (training provided by Skidmore College before camp begins).
  • At least 16 years old; mature, responsible, creative, energetic, and team-oriented.
  • Experience in a camp setting or working with young children preferred; excellent references required.
  • Candidates with or pursuing education in Early Childhood Education will be strongly considered.
  • Employment is contingent upon an acceptable background check.
  • New York State Employment Certificate (working papers) is required for sixteen and seventeen-year-olds.
