About Horizon Engage

Horizon Engage is a New York-based strategic intelligence platform that delivers the clarity global investors need to make smarter decisions.

A founder-run advisory operating and steadily growing since 2003, Horizon Engage counts the senior leadership of the world’s largest energy, renewables and mining companies among its clients. We cover over 70 countries, supported by a network of 100+ in-country experts.

Our team helps clients navigate their most critical questions about governments, policies and people through the lens of industry insight and practical, business-focused advice.

The Role

Horizon Engage is seeking an energetic, efficient and affable research manager to join our team as our Research Coordination Associate.

The Research Coordination Associate will work closely with the Chief Product Officer to assist with prioritization of effort based on client and commercial requirements, track global workflow, deliver research coordination, and manage the company’s information architecture and digital tools.

No two days will be the same. This is a role for a bright thinker who can anticipate the analytic needs of the energy world’s most senior executives and ensure their requirements are being met on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities

The Research Coordination Associate will have primary responsibility for ensuring the smooth functioning of the Horizon Engage intelligence cycle, from requirement through dissemination.

This includes end-to-end performance management of the research cycle, tracking performance from requirement capture through to dissemination and feedback. The role will work with the Chief Product Officer and Regional Directors to maintain the analyst scorecard and professional development system.

The successful candidate will monitor workload capacity to ensure deadlines are met and research hours are used optimally and sustainably without overstretching human resources. They will also sustain both current and forward-looking assessments of research staffing requirements based on the company’s goals, missions and long-term objectives.

The position will own and maintain key guidance documents and resources for research staff and contributors, as well as maintain product submission forms in line with company guidelines.

Responsibilities also include maintaining the company’s digital subscriptions for required news and information sources, ensuring the research library remains current and accessible.

The Research Coordination Associate will take meeting minutes during internal research meetings, distribute action items and monitor follow-up. The role will also manage knowledge systems to ensure past products are properly archived and retrievable through the company’s shared Google Drive and associated productivity tools.

Candidate Profile

Candidates should have at least five years of experience in research operations management, preferably within a professional services firm, consultancy, government environment or a major energy multinational. Strong experience in knowledge management and business process administration will be advantageous.

The role requires a collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with a large network of remote analysts. The successful candidate will thrive in a friendly, fast-growing and busy global team environment.

A high degree of organisation, precision and attention to detail is essential, along with strong time management and an instinctive grasp for operational efficiency. The ability to work to deadline and respond to short-turnaround requests is critical.

Strong communication skills are required, as the role involves working across numerous time zones and analytic cultures. Experience coordinating distributed teams internationally will be beneficial.

Familiarity with upstream oil and gas, renewables, or the mining and metals sectors is advantageous, along with an understanding of global geopolitical dynamics and the domestic political and social environments of key markets.

A degree in International Relations, Politics, Economics or a related field is preferred, though equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
